Students of The Academy of Vocal Arts (later: The Music & Drama Institute) launched their first vocal recital in public at City Hall Theatre. The youngest soloist was 13 years old, former and present students of Dr. Derek Anthony from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and England joined in the all-Italian program, which took the audience through a 300-year journey demonstrating the stylistic development of of Italian vocal music through songs and arias by Parisotti, Scarlatti, Haendel, Paisiello, Marcello, Pergolesi, Gluck, Mozart, Donizetti, Arditi, and Puccini.
