Alan Youngblood was born on the island of St.Croix in the Caribbean but grew up in Cleveland, Ohio in the USA, where he fell in love with Jazz.
Out of college as a history major, he combined his passions and became a professional musician, a music educator and an organiser and participant in various jazz festivals. Alan Youngblood traveled in the US jazz circuit and achieved notariety in jazz circles recording and playing with, among others, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Lewis Nash.
He has lived, worked and played in Los Angeles, Seattle, North Carolina. He moved to Hong Kong in 1992 playing at some of the top jazz clubs and venues in Hong Kong. He has lived in and played all over Asia, playing in Singapore and managing a club in Vietnam. He is currently the musical director of Hong Kong's FCC (Foreign Correspondent's Club) where he can be heard at the jazz bar.
He now calls Hong Kong home and is applying his varied talents to preparing for the second Peurto Galera Jazz Festival, October of 2005 on Mindaro island in the Philippines, and to instructing students at the Music and Drama Institute.
His latest CD, Midnight Odyssey was recorded in Sydney where he worked with some of Australia's most noted horn players.
