BIOGRAPHY

Amy Tam started taking piano lessons at the age of five in Guangzhou. She pursued her training from the well known pianist Li Qi. She won numerous prizes in the Pearl River Piano Competitions at her young age and thereafter was invited to public performance on many occasions.

In 1996, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing where she gained her instructions with major in Harp from Professor Zou Yin. While being a student, she was invited to join the China Youth Symphony Orchestra and to perform in a series of public performances presented by China Central Television & Radio.

Amy accompanied the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra to Taiwan as the Principal Harp in 1996 and the Shenzhen Philharmonic Orchestra as the China Representative to Berlin Music Festival in 1997. They continued the performing tour to Germany and Czechoslovakia following the Festival.

In recent years, she has been active in regular performance with various outstanding Orchestras in the region including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, the Guangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra and the Shenzhen Philharmonic Orchestra. She also received her Professional Diploma with distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2001. and is currently instructing.

In 2003, she was awarded the Molly McAulay Scholarship to study the Master of Performance (Harp) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Over the past two years, she has also got numerous opportunities to have exchange with and guidance from Louise Johnson, the Principal Harp of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Alice Giles from the Australia National University. Recently she returned to Hong Kong to re-commence her harp performing for the various orchestras and instruction at the HKAPA as well as the Music Office of Hong Kong on part-time basis.
