its 5th Anniversary on September 1st 2005
It is already five years since The Music & Drama Institute was founded, and on this occasion we would like to bring you an update about what has been achieved until now.
Some of achievements of the first five years - The establishment of a comprehensive curriculum based on internationally recognized standards at conservatory and university levels.
- An increase in teaching staff to over 40 faculty members from 15 countries on 5 continents, all possessing international performance experience & qualifications.
- The development of 8 departments, including Brass Studies, Drama Studies, Integrative Studies, Jazz Studies, Keyboard Studies, String Studies, Voice & Opera Studies, and Woodwind Studies.
- The establishment of 50 Subject offerings for classroom or individualized study.
- A 15-fold increase in student enrollment.
- Enrollment of students from over 30 countries worldwide.
- A consistent enrollment of local Hong Kong students representing 80% of the student body.
- Several students successfully completing ABRSM diploma and grade exams in voice, violin, piano, and clarinet, and drama.
- Several students admitted to overseas institutions for further study after MDI training.
- An increase in recruitment of Visiting Artists from international pool of talent.
- The establishment of an Artist-for-hire scheme, including prominent clients such as Rolls Royce, Bulgari, Bentley Motors, Mission Hills Golf Club, The American Chamber of Commerce, and The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Cathay Pacific.
- Performances for foreign diplomats from 100 countries, a majority of the leading members of the Hong Kong Government, and the Xinhua News Agency, and numerous other VIP audiences.
- Construction and development of tailor-made facilities in Central, including performance and examination venues, creating a virtual cultural center in the heart of Hong Kong.
- The development of a Performing Arts Library with over 3000 items, including audio-visual materials, catalogued according to international library standards.
- The MDI has become the local venue of choice for the annual ABRSM Diploma examinations, which are held in 90 countries worldwide.
- The launch and development of user-friendly web-site, with over 300 pages of valuable information for potential and active students, parents of students, potential and active Artist-Teachers, visitors, and the general public both locally and world-wide.

From day one this organization has been developed with clear vision for the future potential of the performing arts, with specific goals for achievement, and consistent adherence to the principles that the MDI was founded on: educational quality, artistic competence, positive cross-cultural experience, and equal opportunity based on merit.
