Purpose & Goals:
To enable singers, singing teachers and choral directors to work on repertoire in English with ease, accuracy and expression. This course will provide students with the basics of English pronunciation and diction as well as coaching them in pronunciation and interpretation through particular the songs they choose to study in class. Simple conversation skills will also be taught during the lessons to get a better feeling for the language.

Content & Activities:
This course is designed mainly for singers without prior knowledge of the English Language as used on stage and in classical vocal music. It offers a basic introduction with an emphasis of phonetics and pronunciation, applied to English songs.

Course content includes: Pronunciation of the English alphabet, pronunciation of diphthongs, consonants and vowels. Distinguishing long and short, open and closed vowels.

Special pronunciation exercises for single letters, group of letters, words, word groups.
Pronunciation of selected songs provided for the course and by the students themselves. Coaching in pronunciation, interpretation and dramatic expression.

Prerequisites:
This course will benefit all students of singing, accompanying, and choral conducting. A basic knowledge of the repertoire suggested by the student is expected
