Her playing described as "brilliant" and "stunning" by critics, flautist Donna Orbovich is an active solo, orchestral and chamber musician in Asia and the United States. Currently Assistant Principal Flute with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, she has also performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Savannah Symphony and the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra.
Donna Orbovich's recent solo engagements include Brandenburg No.4 with Jaime Laredo and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Chen Yi's Golden Flute with the National Symphony of China in 2001, and John Corigliano's Pied Piper with the Shanghai Broadcasting Orchestra at the Shanghai Grand Theatre in 2002. She has been invited to perform the Corigliano piece again at the Beijing Music Festival in October 2002. She has also appeared with the Duluth Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony and the Shanghai Symphony.
Ms. Orbovich has several recordings with the Excelsior label, and she frequently performs live on Minnesota Public Radio. Summer festivals include the inaugural season of the Pacific Music Festival with the late Leonard Bernstein, the Spoleto Festival for three seasons, Blossom Music Festival, Washington Island Chamber Players in Michigan, and the Bedford Springs Festival in Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Music from the New School of Music and her Master of Music from Temple University, both in Philadelphia. She was a student of the late Murray Panitz, as well as Jeanne Baxtresser, Alain Marion and Jeffrey Khaner.
Donna resides in Hong Kong with her daughter, Zoe Hu.
