BIOGRAPHY

Eilidh Gillespie moved to Hong Kong in September 2004 to take up the position of Principal Flute with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, having just graduated with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London. Since moving to Hong Kong, Eilidh has also appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Macau Orchestra. She previously played with various orchestras in the UK including Camerata Scotland, Britten-Pears Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. Eilidh has extensive experience as a chamber musician and soloist, having given many solo performances both in Hong Kong and at home in Scotland and in London. She most recently appeared as soloist with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in Mozart's Flute Concerto No.2, which was broadcast live on RTHK Radio 4. In addition to her performing work, Eilidh enjoys teaching and she currently works at Hong Kong Baptist University and at various international schools in Hong Kong.

While at the Royal College of Music, Eilidh studied flute with Paul Edmond Davies, Simon Channing, Jaime Martin and Celia Chambers, and studied piccolo with Stewart McIlwham and baroque flute with Rachel Brown. As a postgraduate student, she gained numerous scholarships including an Andrew Fraser Scholarship, a Sir James Caird Scholarship and a Craxton Memorial Trust award. Eilidh previously studied at Edinburgh University where she gained a first-class honours degree in music, and held the Sir Thomas Beecham performance scholarship.
