Because our all our students are part-time students, we will accept any level, including beginners, late starters, and even music and vocal students with technical problems, for individual instruction
Some of the classes may have prerequisites.

Do I need to be very fluent in English or Chinese to be able study at The MDI?
Most of the instruction given is in English, some in Chinese. However, you will find that our artist-teachers are both friendly and patient, and are usually very experienced in teaching local students. Some classes are conducted in two languages with an interpreter or a bi-lingual teacher.

No. One of the key factors in the philosophy of The MDI is to provide equal opportunity to both students and staff and to promote cultural diversity and interaction.

Can I enter if I'm not from Hong Kong?
Yes, but it is your responsibility to ensure that your immigration status allows you to live and study in Hong Kong. The MDI cannot provide this for you.

Can I get advice about my studies and my future plans?
Yes. The MDI is an excellent resource for such information. Our administrators and artist-teachers combine the personal experience of living, studying, performing, and teaching in many countries outside of Hong Kong.
Also our commitment to a long-term view about education enables us to provide you with a comprehensive view about your opportunities and plans for the future.

When and where can I practice?
If you a regular student at The MDI and have paid your monthly tuition for individual instruction, you will be able to enjoy free use* of our practice rooms during our working hours.
* students who wish use this option, must make a venue booking in advance.

Can I take examinations and receive certificates at The MDI? All of our teachers have the professional qualifications and experience to teach candidates for all levels of external examinations, including all Grades and Diplomas, for Trinity, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, The Australian Music Education Board, etc. Successful candidates will receive certificates from the examining organization. The MDI does issue certificates for participation in classes and group activities and, upon request, letters of recommendation for individual instruction at the MDI lasting at least one academic year.

If my schedule is irregular and unpredictable, will I be penalized financially?
No. In fact, The MDI makes every effort to provide a schedule that fits the individual student's needs. The only limitation to this is our 24-hour cancellation policy for individual lessons. Course tuition fees are not refundable after the announced deadline.

Is it very expensive to study at The MDI?
We believe that commitment to quality training, professional behavior, additional benefits, such as free practice rooms, performance opportunities, library access and borrowing privileges add significant value to the learning process. We make every effort to ensure that our tuition charges give students value for money while maintaining high standards for every aspect of the student's education.

How many months of prepayment do you require?
Prepayment of tuition fees at the beginning of each month is required for individual lessons. Course tuition fees must be received before the announced deadline for registration & payment for each course.

How can I get a lower tuition rate?
You can choose individual lessons of shorter duration than the normal one hour, or you can schedule the individual lessons for each month according to your preferred schedule and budget. Course tuition fees are fixed.
