BIOGRAPHY

Gary Tong was born in 1979 in Hong Kong. He had completed Diploma in Music Performance (piano) from Mount Royal College, Calgary in 2000; Bachelor of Music (organ performance) from the University of Calgary in 2002, and Master of Music Degree (organ performance) from the University of Alberta in 2004. He was the semi-finalist of the Royal Bank Calgary International Organ Festival and Competition in 2002, and second-prize winner of the Royal Canadian College of Organists National Playing Competition in 2003. He was the President for the Royal Canadian College of Organists Calgary Center for the year 2004-5. Mentors of Gary included Dr. Terrence Fullerton (organ), Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht (organ), Dr. Joacchim Segger (improvisation), Neil Cockburn (organ), and Allen Reiser (piano).

During his eight years of stay in Canada, he served as Assistant Organist at Christ Church (Anglican), Calgary, with whom he had accompanied in the last three recordings. Gary was also the accompanist for the Calgary Chinese Oratorio Society, Director of Music Ministries at Calgary Chinese Pentecostal Church, and he founded and directed the Calgary Chinese Chamber Choir.

In September 2005 Gary moved back to Hong Kong as the Assistant in Music Ministry at the Chinese Methodist Church, Hong Kong. He is now actively involved with various local choirs, music ministry at Diamond Hill Baptist Church and the Hong Kong Baptist Seminary Worship Arts Centre. Gary also teaches at the Music and Drama Institute, Hong Kong.
