George Lomdaridze currently plays double bass with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. George comes from a musical family in Tbilisi, Georgia, where he started his musical education at an early age. He graduated from the music school for gifted children as a pianist and double bass player and studied double bass and composition at the Tbilisi Conservatory. George continued his double bass studies at the Moscow Conservatory with professor Lev Rakov. In 1995, he won Third Prize in the first International Koussevitsky Double Bass Competition in Moscow, Russia. After completing his Masters Degree at the Moscow Conservatory, George received a fellowship from the Guildhall School of Music in London to study with Tom Martin. George later studied on fellowship with Stephen Lester at Roosevelt University in Chicago where he won the Concerto Competition performing the Edward Tubin Concerto. He has performed with the Pharos Soloists led by Levon Chilingirian in Cyprus, London, and Prague. He was Principal Double Bass of the Georgia State Opera, the Tbilisi Symphony, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. George has also played with the Moscow Radio and TV Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. He frequently performs as a substitute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
