VISITING ARTIST-TEACHER BIOGRAPHY

"the voice that distinguished itself... came from Jeremy William's viola, which took on the work's challenges...with ease and confidence."
~ The Age

Jeremy Williams studied at Wells Cathedral School in England with Mark Knight. Upon graduating with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with David Takeno, Jeremy was immediately accepted by the London Symphony Orchestra as a member of the first violin section, and thus began his professional life under conductors such as Abbado, Svetlanov, Previn and Celibidache. In 1983 he was invited to join the Delme Quartet, and has been dedicated to chamber music ever since, playing with the Nash Ensemble, the York Piano Trio, and in 1990 forming the Beethoven String Trio of London. From 1998-2002 he was Principal Viola of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, but was delighted to return to chamber music with an invitation to join ASQ.

"A lot of the great composers played the viola - Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, Schubert and more - I think there's something in the music where the violist gets right to the heart of the music and what it's trying to say. The repertoire for string quartet is just so rich...if you're going to play the viola, that's the place to play it."
