BIOGRAPHY

American Clarinetist John Schertle has performed in orchestras and chamber music ensembles across the United States, Germany and Japan. He is currently Assistant Principal Clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Born in Southern California, Schertle began his studies at the R.D.Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. He went on to gain degrees from the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded the distinction of the Performer's Certificate.

In 1996, Schertle appeared as bass clarinet soloist in the Martino Triple Concerto in New York City's Alice Tully Hall, performing with the New Juilliard Ensemble. Schertle is a recipient of the Tilden Prize, awarded by the National Arts Club of America.

Schertle has been Principal Clarinet with the New World Symphony, the Juilliard Orchestra, the Eastman Philharmonia and the Heidelberg Castle Festival Opera Orchestra, and he has also played with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, the Aspen Festival Orchestra and the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra.
