BIOGRAPHY

Born in Luxembourg, Laurent studied cello, chamber music, theory, piano, harmony and conducting in his native country. At the same time, he takes regular lessons with the Russian cellist Daniel Chaffran both in Luxembourg and in Germany.

After obtaining several distinctions, Laurent Perrin moved to Barcelona in Spain to study with Lluis Claret and then to London at the "Guildhall School of Music and Drama" with Raphael Wallfish where he obtained the Performer's Diploma. It was also during that time that he regularly met and learned with Gyorgy Sebok and Monique Deschaussees.

He won first prize in the Dorothy Adams String Quartet Competition and was a finalist in the European International Youth Competition for Cello in Bulgaria in 1989.

Laurent loves chamber music and has worked closely with the Takacs, Melos, Borodin and Amadeus String Quartets as well as the Trio Fontenay.

After 3 months residency at the "Banff Centre for the Arts" (Canada) and a few months in Toronto, Laurent Perrin established himself in Hong Kong in 1996. He currently teaches cello and chamber music at the "Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts" and is Assistant Principal Cello with the "Hong Kong Sinfonietta". He has recorded several programmes for the Radio 4.

He performs regularly as a chamber musician in Europe, South East Asia, Japan and China. Since 1997 he has been regularly invited to teach in Malaysia. In Hong Kong his students have been winning several top prizes in local competitions.
