Madelein Yap has taught and adjudicated Music (Piano and Cello) and Dance in Singapore for over 30 years.
She holds the LRSM diploma and, as a student, was awarded the highest grade in the Royal Schools' Chamber Music exam.
Her interest in working with and bringing music and dance to young people was fostered in her teens when she was selected to study on the Special Music Education Course at the Singapore Teachers' Training College, where she was awarded the CESM diploma.
She was one of the pioneer cellists in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, when it was established in 1979 and in which she played for many years. She has toured in the ASEAN countries, both with the orchestra and as a cellist in a chamber ensemble.
She was also the lead Dancer in the first professional dance group to be established on Singapore TV. Over the past few years she has conducted many Line Dance classes in Singapore, an activity she now hopes to introduce to Hong Kong.
