First of all, thank you for taking the time to explore our new website. We hope that the information you find here will give useful insights into the opportunities The MDI is ready to offer.
Education, artistry, and professionalism are the three cornerstones of our philosophy and goals. Guided by these principles since the short time from the establishment of the Institute in year 2000, the school has established itself as a reputable, high quality institution for music and drama training in Hong Kong.
Our emphasis on quality in education means that all our teachers must have overseas qualifications, performance experience, and a demonstrable commitment to teaching. This is not only to ensure an artistic focus on each student's potential, but also to ensure that MDI teachers have relevant practical experience to guide students through the development of their musical abilities and performance skills.
Students who achieve competence are not only happier and more confident as performers, but are also able to enrich the culture and society they live in, by adding beauty and meaning to both their own and to other peoples lives. In the long run their efforts contribute to raising the level of education, artistry, and professionalism in the community.
For artistry to flourish we encourage an atmosphere which fosters the enjoyment of cultural experiences, the joy of learning and exploration at any age. This can only happen if there is a strong sense of freedom to ask questions, coupled with ample opportunities to find answers from which creativity and innovation can develop.
Our educational goals aim at the development of the whole person; not only to achieve musical and dramatic skills and knowledge about the great works of art, but also to bring out the individual student's creative potential and critical thinking skills about art, artistry, culture and life in general.
The MDI offers a variety of opportunities for students of all ages to receive training from experienced professionals in the music and drama fields. Currently all our activities are offered as part-time studies for individuals or groups. In addition, The MDI offers master classes and seminars with visiting artists and scholars throughout the year.
Students may come to The MDI to gain general knowledge in the field as a special interest, to develop performance skills, to prepare for competitions, auditions or examinations both locally and overseas, and to receive advice on music and drama studies and careers overseas. The MDI welcomes music and drama students of all levels from beginners to professionals for individualized training.
All learning experiences are ultimately determined by the philosophy and the attitudes, which guide educational decisions.
One example of that is our commitment to promoting equal opportunities both for teachers and students based on the principle of merit regardless of age, gender, national, ethnic, and religious background, as a prerequisite for meaningful educational and artistic activity.
The quality of the learning experience is further enhanced by purpose-built facilities for performance and study, and one of the fastest growing performing arts libraries in Hong Kong.
We pride ourselves on efficient organization with clear, fair and simple procedures and regulations that allow students as much flexibility as possible to tailor their studies to fit their budget and schedule. Throughout the process, our friendly, helpful, and competent administrative staff will be there to help you.
Since it opened, The MDI has had staff and students from over 30 countries around the world, while always maintaining a ratio of 80 % of local students.
